Moeed W. Yusuf is the South Asia Advisor at the United States Institute of Peace and is responsible for managing the Institute’s Pakistan program. He continues to be affiliated with SEPR as a Visiting Affiliate. Till December 2009, Mr. Yusuf was a Fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future at Boston University. He was concurrently a Research Fellow at Harvard University's Mossavar-Rahmani Center. He previously worked as a Special Guest Scholar at The Brookings Institution, Washington, DC., USA and as an expert on economic policy at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Islamabad, Pakistan. He has also consulted with the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, Innovative Development Strategies, UNESCO, United States Institute for Peace, and Pugwash International. Mr. Yusuf taught at Boston University's Political Science and International Relations Departments in 2009 and has also taught at the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies at Quaid-e-Azam University as a member of the visiting faculty in 2006-07. He has published widely in national/international journals, organizational publications, and magazines. He writes regularly for The Friday Times, Pakistan. His advice is regularly solicited by various public functionaries/policy makers. Mr. Yusuf's previous research within the security ambit has focused on South Asian nuclear weapons and the "stability-instability paradox," relevance of nuclear deterrence versus nuclear proliferation in South Asia, global non-proliferation regime, the Kashmir dispute, South Asian strategic parity, conventional imbalance between Pakistan and India, United States strategic interests in South Asia, terrorism, Pakistan US-relations, civil-military relations in Pakistan, and the prospects of youth radicalization in Pakistan. Relevant to development interests, his recent work has focused on Pakistan's macro-economy, domestic, regional and bilateral trade (specifically with India), the link between conflict and economic interdependence, prospects for investment in economic ventures of strategic importance, domestic commerce, poverty, and institutional development concerns.
